On My Way
OMW… Such a common phrase it’s just 3 letters in a text. I’m coming.
Early in the spring, I made the decision to move. From my small town life of 45 years in a beautiful ranching valley to a stunner of a valley just over the mountains, full of gardens and vineyards. With more people, action, services, and culture.
Culture? A viewpoint for sure. A loaded word…
I was brought up in small and medium sized towns, most in the southern heart of British Columbia. Towns full of hard working people and a variety of fun events. From tail gate parties and family fiddle dances, to concerts and ballet recitals. With a tradesman dad and an almost-librarian mom, I was comfortable in a range of environments.
As a young adult, after a studious stint in the city, I made my home in a small community, raised my family, and lived out a full teaching career, until I landed a contract as the Gallery Director for the local Arts Council. And we gathered the creative talent in the valley, and expressed it in art shows, a gift shop, open mics, coffee houses, market kids events, interactive projects, and public art everywhere. For me, a 7 year whirlwind… Creating culture. Having fun. Working hard to provide fun and culture for a whole community.
I made my decision to move to the heart of a larger community, where others are busy…creating and providing. So, it’s time to wrap up in my 45 year valley…sort alll my resources, pack up my treasures and memories. And look to new ways to express myself. I have a sense of years of unfinished projects for me to return to, passions that have flared over the years, to engage with fully. And fulfill.
In my personal environment, I have been surrounded by the most remarkable sources of inspiration, processes, and answers. That have served me and I know can serve others. Boxed them up. Lots to unpack as they say. And share…
As we speak, I am putting on a shelf this influential book, perfect at a time in my life: an inspiring resource…the book The Art of Possibility .
The courage to make a move! Time again for a reread!
Until next time...express yourself by engaging with possibilities in your life. I have taken a plunge…
