20 Affirmations for Young Children

Inspired! 20 Affirmations for Young Children. I love affirmations. I put this little book together while on a trip to see family recently. I traveled across the Pacific Ocean from interior BC to Tasmania, where my grandsons live. My fourth time in four years and I’m getting used to it.

My youngest daughter had given me a heads up that she and her two young boys were coloring daily. And had been for weeks. I discovered within hours of arriving, that they had coloring pages galore from a wide variety of sources. And an enviable collection of markers. Acrylic, alcohol, watercolor, brush tip, broad and fine tip…. Beside cups of pencil crayons in all shades and hues.

I joined them at the bright kitchen table and leafed through handfulls of coloring pages to choose from. Unpack later! Most pages were easy, bold, and geared to the 3-8 age group. The boys, aged five and seven, stunned me with the level of their coloring skills. And impressed me with their knowledge of color names and familiarity with the different mediums and which to choose for what coloring style. The youngest loved coloring the same pic as his mom, and they collaborated on colors. With discussions and reasons for their choices.

Coloring outside the lines was not a thing. These boys stuck to the coloring code. And by this time they were so experienced, I was in awe. I was the one who had trouble, with my thumb being a little spastic at my age. Funny. The older boy assessed my coloring, noticing each errant spastic line, counting them. But he was understanding and kind. And encouraging. My heart…

We colored together almost daily. My younger grandson was partnered up with his mom, and if she wasn’t there he would ask me what color I thought he should use next on his page. (Although he didn’t always take my suggestion.) My older grandson would stick with his coloring until he had a thought of a new lego design he wanted to tackle. And left us to create 3D versions of the kinds of designs he chose for his coloring pages.

Choosing pages was a thing. As I discovered. We didn’t like pages that were too complex. (We like to finish our creations and pop them in colorful files my daughter had ready for us.) And each of us had our favorite themes. Transportation, nature, scary pics like skeletons, and I discovered that I like to color creatureless environments. Like shops, kitchens, gardens. Who knew? My daughter would take our choices to a copier and return, ready for us to get going again. A perfect wind down and focus activity for two boys who were usually engaged in active pursuits…(trampoline, forts, chase the cats, soccer, swimming, tennis, play dates, surfing, sandcastles, lots)

While there, I noticed the positive sayings that this family uses. Words of encouragement, support, and inspiration. And I noticed, when things were challenging, that I had sayings and words to offer myself, that could help.

A fun book! 8.5×8.5”

So, in the lull of a couple of active days for the boys, I found myself on Canva hunting for images, and on the Internet, googling for more positive sayings. I pulled together a coloring book for young kids, found a Youtube video on how to publish a book on Amazon, and three days later I was showing the boys this coloring book titled, “20 Affirmations for Young Children”. Delight!

I have been wanting to do another kids book (I’ve done two before, years ago) and this trip was the inspiration I needed. I hadn’t considered a coloring book, but they have been very popular now for the last years! I decided to make this book a part of a series, “Good Vibes Talk”, and immediately started an affirmation coloring book for kids a bit older. “Good Vibes Talk: 25 Affirmations for Kids” (And discovered Canva’s AI coloring app, Magic Media. Artificial Intelligence coloring pages are a whole topic! lol)

I think these little books are super cute. And I am all about positive affirmations starting at a young age!

My intro… “Good words last a lifetime! Help guide your child to feel cheerful, be kind, and show respect. It's important for kids to believe in themselves and be good to others. How can you help your child express themselves? Give them words to say! Use the affirmations to chat about behaviour and think up ways to be positive and creative! Enjoy these affirmations! And have fun colouring! Appealing illustrations from Canva Elements”

Request! Buy one! And leave me a positive review! That’s how this book will stand out from the others. And maybe get me my 5th trip next year to Tasmania and see what the boys are up to then!
